Cardiac Care
Sumner Regional Health Systems began offering interventional cardiology in 2005. Interventional cardiology is a field of heart medicine dedicated to research and technology for minimally invasive heart procedures. It is a relatively new field where traditional surgical procedures are performed during a heart catheterization. Blood vessels around the heart are treated using a balloon catheter and often a stent, which is inserted into the cardiovascular system via an artery. This subspecialty of cardiology uses stents and other devices to restore blood flow to the heart without the need for major surgery.
